Visit to Pennsylvania

On November 3, 2010, Dr. Husam Al Ulama, the Cultural Counselor, and two Academic Advisors, Mrs. Brenda Casteen and Ms. Zakya Sultan, visited Pennsylvania State University (Penn. State). They met with UAE students attending the university. During the meeting five UAE students both at the undergraduate and graduate level received Certificates for Excellence for Academic Performance for Spring 2010.

From Penn State, Mrs. Brenda Casteen and Ms. Zakya Sultan went to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to visit ten students attending Wilkes University. A reception was held in the evening of November 3rd, which was attended by all the UAE students at Wilkes, the entire ESL program administration and faculty, the entire Center for Global Education and Diversity staff, and other staff. The students were an integral part of planning the reception, as student Saeed Al Mansoori assisted in procuring food for the event and Rashed Almazrooei cooked for the group.

In Philadelphia, Mrs. Brenda Casteen and Ms. Zakya Sultan met with the University of Pennsylvania English Language Program, when academic matters and the University Connection program at Penn were discussed. They also met with Drexel’s English Language Center and International Admission representatives. Both schools in Philadelphia have very strong bridging programs. The Academic Advisors also met with 18 students in the Philadelphia area for a casual lunch.
